Workplace Health Checks available across the East Riding

East Riding has been a pilot area for the NHS workplace health check which started in September last year. Since launching over 1000 people have taken up the check within their place of work.

More than 50 businesses have held an NHS workplace health check event to enable their employees to undertake the assessment,  aiming to prevent heart disease, stroke, diabetes, kidney disease and some cases of dementia amongst adults aged 30-74 years old.

The NHS health check assesses the seven main risk factors of smoking status, body mass index (BMI), alcohol consumption, physical activity level, cholesterol level, blood pressure, and blood sugar level. Advice and support is offered to reduce each person’s risk of cardiovascular disease, through behaviour change interventions and preventative action.

Businesses have ranged in size, and employees taking up the checks need to live or work in the East Riding. Around 51 percent of those who have completed a check have been men, which is a target demographic for the workplace health check, as men are less likely to take time away from work to prioritise their health.

The pilot runs until 31 March and has been funded by the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC).

Any workplace in the East Riding, from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), micro-enterprises, to large public sector organisations can host workplace NHS health checks at any time. For information email: healthatwork@eastriding.gov.uk

NHS Health Checks in the community are also available for East Riding residents aged between 40-74. Find out more here.
