Six weeks of roadworks in Out Newton

A scheme to improve a road in Out Newton in Holderness, is due to begin in September.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council will invest £250,000 to upgrade Out Newton Road including resurfacing bends, patching parts of the road surface, strengthening its edges and replacing damaged kerbing.

The project is due to start on Monday 1 September and is expected to take six weeks to complete.

The work will prepare the rural road for surface dressing – the laying of stone chippings along its length and the sealing of the road – which is scheduled to take place next year in order to protect it against potholes and other damage.

During the work, parts of Old Newton Road will be closed to through traffic, although access to properties will be maintained.

A traffic diversion will be place via Balk Hill, Out Newton Road, Main Road, Holmpton Road, A1033 Withernsea Road, A1033 Hollym Road, B1445 High Street, Eastgate, Welwick Road, Skeffling Road and Weeton Road.

The works will be carried out by the council’s own road maintenance team.

Councillor Paul West, the council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “Thank you to local residents and drivers for bearing with us while we carry out this essential work to improve this road in Holderness.”
