Inmans Primary School in Hedon is the latest school to achieve the Healthy School Award from East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
The award demonstrates the school’s commitment to helping raise healthy, happy children, through good health and wellbeing practice.
Schools have the advice and expertise of the council’s public health team to help them implement and deliver elements of the scheme, including healthy eating options, oral health, physical activity, mindfulness and mental health.
Inmans Primary held a celebration day for pupils to recognise the award. The Active Communities team involved Y4 pupils in a range of activities throughout the day – from outdoor adventure, team building to problem solving activities. They also delivered a dance party for Year 6 pupils over lunchtime.
Sue Fellows, Headteacher at Inmans Primary School said:
“Children here at Inmans understand the importance of healthy bodies and healthy minds, and know how they can achieve that – whether this be a balanced diet, active lifestyle, understanding their mental well-being and knowing how to maintain healthy relationships.
“We were absolutely thrilled to be chosen for this celebration day with Active Communities. It truly recognises the golden thread that is interwoven into everyday life at Inmans Primary School for happy, healthy children.”
Councillor Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families and education said:
“The activities pupils are involved in will also help instil positive health behaviours from a young age, which will support them to live healthy, happy lives and prevent future illness and disease. The healthy School Award also helps improve school attendance, behaviour, and attainment.
“It was great to see the children enjoying the day of celebration and recognising the importance of health and wellbeing. Well done to Inmans Primary for helping pupils to have the best start in life!”
