Since the relaunch of Operation Coastline on 22 July, officers have covered almost 3,300 miles on foot and carried out more than 1,500 hours of dedicated patrols across our coastal communities.
While neighbourhood officers patrol the coastline throughout the year, Operation Coastline provides an enhanced policing presence during the busy summer months, with additional officers carrying out high-visibility patrols in areas that see a significant increase in visitors.
Alongside engaging with residents, businesses and visitors, officers have responded to incidents, tackled anti-social behaviour, supported local events, arrested wanted offenders, seized nuisance motorcycles and carried out targeted patrols in hotspot areas, while continuing to work closely with neighbourhood policing teams across the force area.
Superintendent Paul French, Head of Community Safety, said:
“Our neighbourhood officers are a familiar presence in our coastal communities throughout the year, but Operation Coastline allows us to strengthen that presence during the busiest months. By having more officers out on foot, we’re able to deter crime, deal with issues quickly and provide reassurance to the people who live, work and visit our coastline.
“Just as importantly, it gives us more opportunities to speak with people, understand the concerns affecting different communities and take action where it’s needed. We want everyone to enjoy everything our coastline has to offer this summer, so if you see one of our officers while you’re out and about, please come and say hello or let us know about any concerns.”
