Parents and carers in the East Riding can access free online learning to help navigate parenting challenges.
The well-established Solihull Approach guides have been adopted by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, as part of the redesigned Family Help offer to support families.
The online guides aim to help parents better understand their child’s feelings and behaviour and to help parents with resilience, knowledge, and confidence for all stages of parenting. They are tailored to various stages of a child or young person’s development and aim to help family members with reflective, supportive learning, without judgement. Parents and carers will learn about child brain development, challenging behaviour and communication.
There’s a specific section for teenagers, helping them to make sense of brain changes during adolescence and what it means for how they feel, make decisions, and connect in relationships.
Councillor Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families and education said: “We are delighted to be working with the Solihull Approach to provide families with free, accessible, expert-led parenting guidance. Our Family Help offer aims to support families to strengthen relationships, as well as crucially improving the health and wellbeing of children and young people.
“As a council, we are passionate about supporting parents and carers in nurturing confident, emotionally aware children. The introduction of these guides is an important step in our redesigned Family Help model, ensuring families across East Riding have the right support at the right time.”
Residents can access the online learning for free by entering the East Riding access code ‘PUFFIN’ here.
