East Riding Council to buy 97 homes at Hull Road, Withernsea

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is adding to its housing stock with 97 homes at Hull Road, Withernsea.

The homes will be delivered over the next five years and will increase the local availability of affordable housing. These houses form part of the council’s wider ambition to increase the supply of affordable homes across the East Riding, helping local people access quality housing while supporting sustainable communities.

The homes are being acquired from developers Vistry through the council’s Housing Revenue Account (HRA), a ring-fenced fund financed through council housing rents rather than council tax. The HRA enables the council to reinvest in existing homes, develop new housing opportunities, and sustainably grow its housing stock to meet local need.

In Withernsea, 73 homes will be added to the council’s rented housing stock, while 24 properties will be made available through shared ownership, providing an affordable route into home ownership for local residents.

The new homes will provide opportunities for people to remain within their local communities, close to family, employment, schools and support networks, while helping to meet increasing demand for affordable housing across the East Riding. The acquisitions have been part funded through Homes England grant funding. Once completed, the homes will be allocated in accordance with the council’s housing allocations policy.
