For the first time, Birdsall House, the stately home to the south of Malton will open its parkland to the public for an afternoon and evening of live music on Saturday 16th May.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Birdsall House and its 1,000 year old monastic ruins, ‘Birdsall Summer Live’ will be a celebration of music and community.
Headlining the event will be the multi-platinum harmony group The Overtones, renowned for their smooth harmonies, sharp style, and infectious energy, blending classic soul and doo-wop with a modern twist. Known for crowd favourites like Gambling Man, Runaround Sue, and Good Ol’ Fashioned Love.
Band member Darren Everest says “it’s a totally unique venue unlike any other we’ve been too and the Yorkshire crowd always provide a fantastic atmosphere. We can’t wait to come back”
This year’s event also showcases Birdsall House’s commitment to supporting local talent through the Birdsall House Talent Call initiative.
Lady Cara Willoughby who lives at Birdsall House alongside her husband James Willoughby and their three children said:
“We wanted to use this stage to shine a light on the amazing local talent we have here in Yorkshire. We were completely overwhelmed by the response to the Birdsall House Talent Call. The standard of musicians applying was so high. We had a very tough job deciding the winners, but we’re thrilled with the three acts we have chosen, all from Yorkshire and can’t wait to see them perform on the big stage in May.”
There is music to suit every taste, ranging from folk through to opera. The winners of the Birdsall House Talent Call are:
Stevie Mould- folk and country singer from Barlby near Selby. Stevie was quite literally born into music, having been named after the legendary Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac. Her passion for country shines through in every performance, whether she’s putting her own spin on a Johnny Cash classic or reimagining a rock anthem from Whitesnake in her own distinctive style. Inspired from a young age by her grandparents, Stevie grew up listening to country classics on cassette during car journeys around
Hull, a soundtrack that helped shape the artist she is today.
Lauren McNichol- jazz and soul singer from Hutton Buscel. A fantastic soul and jazz singer
from Hutton Buscel, near Scarborough. Having spent years performing as part of Barnsley Youth Choir, often singing alongside over 150 voices, Lauren is now stepping into the spotlight as a solo artist. Expect a beautiful selection of soulful classics from Corinne Bailey Rae, Amy Winehouse and Joni Mitchell.
Flat Pack Music – Married couple Joseph and Heather Buckmaster from Rochdale are opera singers who run Flat Pack Music, a musical charity that brings opera to the wider community. Having first met while
performing at Blackburn Cathedral, Joseph now sings with Opera North, while Heather works as a music therapist supporting vulnerable people within the community. Expect a programme including favourites from The Proms, such as Nessun Dorma, Time to Say Goodbye, and Habanera.
These emerging artists will perform throughout the afternoon, leading into the evening’s headline performance from The Overtones.
Tickets are now on sale, with standard tickets priced at £50 and VIP tickets at £90.
