Crime falls across Humberside area for sixth successive quarter

The Office for National Statistics quarterly crime figures, show a sixth successive fall in crime across the Humberside force area.

The latest figures compare the period July 2024 to June 2025 to July 2023 to June 2024.

With just over 3,400 less crimes in the reporting period, it equates to a decrease of 3.6%, compared to a national decrease of 1.6%.

Humberside Police Deputy Chief Constable Sarah Baker said: “The reduction in crime, for the sixth consecutive publication, I hope really highlights our commitment to our communities and dedication to keep people safe and to feel protected.

“Burglary is an incredibly intrusive crime that can leave people afraid to be in their own homes, and our work to reduce this type of offending is shown with almost a 10% reduction across our area.

“We have also seen a reduction in crimes reported in violence against the person, with a 4.9% reduction – which is a greater decrease than the national average at 2%, and robbery with a 1.8% reduction – again at a greater decrease than the national average of 1.7%.

“Offences of public order have also been recorded as the 9th largest decrease across all 44 forces in the UK, with over 2 less crimes each day reported, alongside stalking and harassment offences which have been recorded as having the 6th largest decrease across all UK forces, with four less crimes each day.

“The reductions in crime across our area is a real testament to our officers and staff, who remain completely dedicated and determined to deliver the best possible service to our communities and provide the highest of standards so people feel supported and reassured. I am incredibly proud of what they have achieved.”

Vehicle offences, arson and criminal damage have also reduced in the reporting period of July 2024 to June 2025 when compared to July 2023 to June 2024, with 4.9% less vehicle crimes and a 2% decrease in arson and criminal damage.

Bicycle theft also saw one of the largest reductions, at 11% less crimes reported, which is now less than the national average of 10%; this has previously been a crime that was higher in the Humberside force area than the national average.

Nationally, there has been an increase in some crimes, which Humberside has also seen, as DCC Baker continued: “With all statistics and figures, there will always be increases in some areas.

“Sexual offences have increased nationally across the country with an average of 9.1% more recorded crimes. We have seen a relatively small increase of 0.7%, and out of the 44 UK forces we have the second lowest increase of offences, but any victim is one too many.

“We would always encourage reporting of sexual offences to us, and I would urge anyone who believes they have been a victim, whether recently or in the past, to please come forward and talk to us, as you will always be believed and supported.

“Possession of weapons and drugs have also seen an increase nationally, at 1.7% for weapons and 19% for drugs offences.

“Across the Humberside force area, we have additional foot patrols in areas identified as having concerns with these types of offences and have adopted a proactive policing approach due to receiving additional funding from the Home Office to tackle serious violence in our area.

“This leads to a higher number of stop searches being conducted, with weapons and drugs discovered which can lead to an increase. We have seen 0.5 more crimes per day for weapons offences and a 1.9 increase in crimes per day for drugs offences across the Humberside area.

“Overall, we have seen a reduction of nine crimes per day recorded across the Humberside force area for the reporting period July 2024 to June 2025 when compared to July 2023 to June 2024. This is incredibly encouraging, a positive result for us and more importantly, for our communities.

“We will never be complacent though and we will continue to work hard to reduce crime, and to protect and keep people safe within the Humberside force area.”
