Digital roadshows, free mobile SIM cards, and educational drop-in events are all being held during ‘Get Online Week’ in the East Riding.
Get Online Week is annual digital inclusion campaign, encouraging people to develop their confidence in utilising the internet, and tackling the digital divide.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council services are hosting a range of services at its adult learning, library, and leisure centre facilities.
The Adult Learning and Employability service is running a digital gifting scheme, where eligible residents can receive a free smart device or laptop, that they can keep, following the completion of a short digital skills course. They are also running Digital Help Hubs at their Adult Learning Centres, to provide help and support with using devices.
East Riding libraries will provide free SIM cards and mobile data, provided by the National Databank from the Good Things Foundation. The scheme is aimed to help digitally excluded people get connected, providing eligible residents with SIM cards with up to 40GB of data. The libraries are also running digital drop-in events, to provide basic digital help and support, alongside digital art sessions to learn how to use digital devices and software for creative purposes.
East Riding Council also provides a ‘progress online’ triage tool, accessed online or at East Riding Libraries, that refer residents to the correct level of support.
Community VISION CIO are funded by the council to deliver the Digital Inclusion 4 All project, and their team are hosting in-person roadshow events across the area to help residents find out more about digital support available. The events will take place at East Riding Leisure Centre Hornsea on Wednesday 22 October 10 am – 12 pm, and the SHoRes Centre in Withernsea on Thursday 23 October, 10 am – 12 pm.
