Plans have been submitted to East Riding Council to make alterations to remodel and extend a specialist care home in Hornsea. Granville Court, located off Esplande, could soon be modified if the planning application is approved by the council.
The NHS’s Humber Teaching Foundation Trust website describes Granville Court as “a specialist nursing home for adults who have profound and multiple learning disabilities alongside complex physical health needs that require nursing care to be constantly available.” The submitted planning application seeks to “extend and refurb” the existing site in order to “maximise the focus on the services it offers.”
Currently, the home is spread across three detached bungalows located a stone’s throw from Hornsea Beach. The planning application seeks to conjoin the three buildings by building two new links.
The work would not alter the number of beds available at the site, with the existing 17 en-suite bedrooms being retained. Two of the rooms are for respite care, allowing families to support the residents.
In terms of access, plans explain there is one access point onto the site from Esplanade. There is space for 10 vehicles on site in addition to there being public transport links available as well as a minibus and other transport provided by the NHS trust.
Currently, the rooms are spread across two homes with the third building being used as office space. Under the proposals the 17 bedrooms would still be spread across ‘two homes’ despite the buildings being physically joined. The homes would each have an open plan living kitchen and living areas.
The proposed work sits within the site’s existing boundaries and, and as plans explain, the extension “has been designed to have a minimal impact on the site and to be sympathetic with the surroundings.” It is also stated that the “materials have been selected to respect the architecture of the local context yet introducing an innovative take to express the building form.”
