East Riding of Yorkshire Council is encouraging residents to attend a Help for Households community event in Withernsea on Wednesday 25 September. The event will offer practical support and expert advice to help local people save money and stay warm this autumn and winter.
The event will be held at Withernsea Leisure Centre, on Wednesday 25 September, from 10am-3pm. There is no booking required to attend, and there will be free tea and coffee available.
This event is part of the council’s Help for Household campaign, which brings together a wide range of initiatives to support residents with the rising cost of living.
Residents will be able to speak directly to council experts and community groups about a variety of schemes including the Healthy Homes Heating Fund which provides financial support for residents with long-term health conditions, and the Great British Insulation Scheme which can help with loft and cavity wall insulation for eligible households.
Additionally, there will be affordable produce available to buy as part of the Shores Community Pantry, as well as a heated gilet giveaway, as part of the Heat the Person, Not the House initiative. Free SIM cards and mobile data, provided by the Good Things Foundation, with free Vodafone, O2, and Three SIMs to help residents stay connected, will also be available
The council’s Your Money team will offer advice on pension credit, winter fuel payments, disability benefits, budgeting and bill reduction, as well as one-to-one energy advice to help reduce bills and keep homes warm.
Residents unable to attend can learn more about the support schemes available by calling the Your Money team on (01482) 394633 or visiting the council’s Help for Households website at https://eryc.link/helpforhouseholds
Nigel Wilkinson, East Riding of Yorkshire Council cabinet member for finance and governance, said:
“The council has already helped local residents to claim more than £3.8 million in benefits in the past year. We’re aware that many people across the East Riding are struggling with the ongoing cost of living crisis and are making active efforts to support those in need.”
‘’We highly encourage interested residents in Withernsea to attend the drop-in event and find out more about the support for which they may be eligible.”
