A major scheme to improve a road between Ottringham and Sunk Island, Holderness, is due to begin this month.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is to invest £575,000 to upgrade a length of Sunk Island Road, between the junction with the A1033 Keyingham Road, Ottringham, and Brick Road, Sunk Island.
The project is due to start on Monday 28 September and is expected to take up to eight weeks to complete, with work being carried out during the daytime.
The work will involve resurfacing sections of the road, carrying out structural patching and strengthening the road edges in preparation for surface dressing – laying stone chippings to help seal the road surface against potholes – at a later date, as well as minor footpath and drainage refurbishments.
To enable the scheme to be carried out safely and efficiently, sections of Sunk Island Road that are being worked on need to be closed to through traffic and a diversion will be in place.
Traffic will be diverted via A1033 New Road, Ottringham, A1033 Patrington Road, Ottringham, A1033 Winestead Lane, Winestead, A1033 Station Road, Patrington, Humber Lane, Patrington, Haven Road, Patrington, Main Street, Patrington, Patrington Road, Patrington and Brick Road, Sunk Island.
Access to homes and businesses will be maintained wherever possible during the road work.
The project will be carried out by the council’s own road maintenance team.
