More than 3,300 pupils from 18 secondary schools in the East Riding have collected their GCSE results.
Councillor Victoria Aitken, Cabinet Member for Children, Families, and Education, said:
“Congratulations to all of our pupils getting their GCSE results. I hope every student achieves the grades they worked hard for, and they can now look forward with confidence to the next stage of their journey, whether that is further education, training, or their chosen career.
“A big thank you to the dedicated and hardworking teachers, support staff and education professionals for the support they give in helping every young person achieve their very best.”
Steve Ostler, Headteacher at Hornsea School said:
“Following our incredible A-level results last week, which placed our Sixth Form among the top 10% nationally, our Year 11 students have continued that success with another excellent set of results today.
“Almost one in five students achieved a grade 7 or above in either English or Maths, while more than 70% of all grades awarded were at grade 4 or above. Our EBacc outcomes also remain among the strongest in the local authority.
“As a fully inclusive school, we are particularly pleased to see further evidence of the progress being made across the whole cohort, including a continued narrowing of the attainment gap for our disadvantaged students. We are delighted that so many of this year’s Year 11 cohort will be continuing their studies with us in the Sixth Form, and we look forward to seeing what they achieve next.”
Mark Crofts, Headteacher at Withernsea High School said:
“It was wonderful to meet with students and their families and to share their pleasure in some hard-earned exam successes. No one underestimates the challenges that our young people face, and the fact that so many of our Year 11 students have risen to these challenges is to be celebrated.
“Parents, families and staff were so obviously proud, and our students, whilst many were simply relieved that the wait was over, spoke with excitement about their next ambitious steps forward. As the door closes on their secondary education, so many more doors open. I wish them all a smooth transition in September and the greatest success as they move onwards.”
