Eden Camp, the modern history museum, near Malton has raised a combined total of £3,715 for charity through two fundraising initiatives: The Great Tommy Sleepout and Drive It Day.
A committed team of Eden Camp veterans and supporters braved the cold as part of The Great Tommy Sleepout, a national campaign that supports military veterans facing homelessness. The team spent the night under the stars, raising £2,615 in support of the Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI).
On Sunday 26th April, the living history museum hosted Drive It Day, drawing a crowd of history buffs and classic car enthusiasts. The event welcomed over 150 classic vehicles to the museum ground, including Alvis TA14 Sport Brake which would have been originally built in the same factory as the CVRTs. The event raised over £1,100 for the NSPCC’s Childline.
Luke Hudman, Marketing Manager, said:
“At Eden Camp, we’re proud of how we’ve brought people together to raise money for two worthwhile causes. The return of Drive It Day was a fantastic opportunity to welcome classic car owners and enthusiasts for a brilliant day. Supporting the Great Tommy Sleepout reflects our ongoing commitment to honouring service and standing by veterans beyond their time in uniform.”
Gavin Pickering, veteran & Eden Camp site services, said:
“Taking part in the Great Tommy Sleepout is something very personal to me. As veterans we understand the challenges that can come after leaving the Armed Forces. Sleeping out for one night is nothing compared to what some are forced to endure, but if it helps raise awareness and funds to support our fellow veterans, then it is absolutely worth it.”
Eden Camp is also taking part in the Great British Summer Savings VAT reduction scheme, implementing the full VAT reduction to help make family days out more affordable this summer. Families can enjoy advance purchase tickets from just £14.75 for adults and concessions, £13 for children, with family tickets available from £26.25.
