Four community groups in Hornsea have been awarded a combined total of £132,845.49 from East Riding of Yorkshire Council as part of commuted sums to support with improvement projects across the town.
Hornsea Town Football Club has been awarded £74,068.85 from commuted sums to improve drainage at Hollis Recreation Ground. The project will deliver essential embankment and drainage works to address long-standing structural and safety issues. Improvements include regrading the northern bank, installing gabion retaining walls, and enhancing drainage to reduce waterlogging, helping to create a safer and more resilient playing surface. The club has secured further funding from the East Coast Community Fund, the Football Foundation and club contributions, bringing the total project cost to £133,615.85.

The funds will provide vital financial support for the redevelopment of the grounds. We express our sincere thanks to the council for recognising the value of community sport and for investing in opportunities that benefit local players, families and supporters.”
Hornsea Cricket Club has been awarded £48,473.64 to install a new all-weather cricket practice facility. The new, two-lane enclosed net facility will replace existing unsafe nets and provide a high-quality training environment. Designed for year-round use, the facility will improve safety, increase training capacity, and support player development across all age groups. An additional £5,835.96 has been secured in match funding, bringing the total project cost to £53,859.60.

“We are grateful to have been awarded funding from East Riding of Yorkshire Council to help install a new all-weather practice facility. This will allow the club to proceed at pace with our growth plans to increase participation within our junior section.”
Hornsea Bowling Club has been awarded £16,283.00 to undertake essential renovation works to the outdoor bowling green. The improvements include replacing an ageing irrigation water tank with a durable system to improve efficiency and reliability, alongside landscaping works, removal of deteriorated boundary hedging, and installation of new seating to create a more welcoming environment. The works are required due to deterioration of the existing green, which is affecting playability, safety and long‑term sustainability of the club. Hornsea Bowling Club has secured a further £475.36 in match funding, bringing the total project costs to £4,758.36.

Hornsea Promenade Bowls Club has received £6,020.00 to refurbish its clubhouse. The project will refurbish the clubhouse kitchen to provide modern, safe facilities with hot running water, and convert an existing lean-to into a secure, weatherproof storage area. Located on the seafront, the club regularly hosts matches and events, and the improvements will enhance its ability to support members and visiting teams. The club has secured £668.89 in match funding, bringing the total project cost to £6,688.89.
