Paull Primary School wins mental health award

Paull Primary School has been awarded the prestigious Gold Mental Health Champion School Award, recognising the school’s exceptional commitment to promoting positive mental health and wellbeing throughout its community.

The school has progressed from Bronze to Silver and now Gold status within a short period of time. The award recognises the school’s pupil-led approach to wellbeing, with Mental Health Champions playing a central role in supporting their peers, leading assemblies, organising awareness campaigns and helping to shape the school’s mental health strategy.

To celebrate the achievement, the school will host a special Mental Health Champions Graduation and Gold Award Celebration Assembly on Friday 3 July. The event will bring together pupils, staff, governors, families, community partners and invited guests to recognise the hard work and dedication of the school’s young wellbeing leaders.

As part of the celebration, the Mental Health Champions will also deliver a workshop for parents, showcasing the skills, knowledge and confidence they have developed through the programme. The school’s Mental Health Champion Team, made up of pupils from across Key Stage 2, has grown into a thriving leadership group. Experienced champions mentor new members, lead meetings, organise wellbeing initiatives and ensure that pupil voice remains at the heart of decision-making.

Over the past year, the champions have successfully organised a range of projects, including a community Brew Monday event that brought together families and local residents to encourage open conversations about mental health. Pupils have also worked alongside staff to review wellbeing surveys, identify priorities and plan activities to support their peers.

Paull Primary School’s commitment to wellbeing extends beyond the classroom. Partnerships with the NHS Mental Health Support Team, regular parent engagement opportunities, Forest School provision and the development of a pupil-led wellbeing garden have helped create a whole-school and whole-community approach to mental health and wellbeing.

Andrea Thompson, Mental Health Champions Co-ordinator at Paull Primary School, said:

“We are incredibly proud of our pupils and staff for achieving this Gold Award. What makes this recognition particularly special is that it reflects a genuine culture of care, kindness and support throughout our school.

“Our Mental Health Champions have shown exceptional leadership and have helped create an environment where children feel safe, valued and confident to talk about their wellbeing. They have demonstrated that young people can play a powerful role in supporting positive mental health, not only within school but across the wider community.”

Gold status is awarded to schools where mental health and wellbeing are fully embedded within school culture, with pupils taking a leading role in promoting wellbeing, influencing decision-making, supporting their peers and engaging with the wider community.
