Humberside Police open recruitment for Volunteer Cadets programme

Humberside Police is inviting young people to join their Volunteer Police Cadets programme.

The recruitment window is open for teenagers aged 15 and 16.

The Force said:

“Joining as a cadet offers a variety of unique opportunities. Cadets get to see behind the scenes of policing in their local area and gain an insight into challenges officers and staff face alongside what the police have in their arsenal to tackle these.

“We are looking for enthusiastic, dedicated young people who are willing to commit two hours a week to the initiative (only in term time) to attend training and learn about policing. Cadets also must volunteer for at least three hours a month working with the force and our communities.”

No formal qualifications are required to join. Full training and a uniform will be provided.

Volunteer Police Cadets currently operate six units in Humberside: Beverely, Bridlington, Goole, Grimsby, Hull and Scunthorpe.

Force lead on the Cadet scheme Katie Hardy said:

“The VPC programme offers invaluable experience to young people in Humberside, but I want to stress that we are not only looking for future officers; we are looking for enthusiastic young people who want to make a difference. The programme helps build confidence and provides a platform for the next generation to influence how we support our communities.”

Why Join?

Behind-the-scene access – Joining as a Cadet is a brilliant way to better understand how the police operate, Cadets have visited our Force Control Room to see how 999 and 101 calls are handled and had many inputs from specialist teams across the force ranging from Crime Scene Investigators to Neighbourhood Policing Teams.

Learn New Skills – Police Cadets from Humberside have completed first aid courses, taken part in team building exercises and learnt about the processes in place that help police officers make decisions in the most critical of circumstances

Represent your community – Cadets engage in activities across Humberside, you will get the opportunity to engage in remembrance Sunday parades and attend local events alongside officers. In the past Cadets have assisted in policing large events like Hull Fair.

Increase your understanding of if Policing is for you – Many officers have joined as a cadet and gone on to become a warranted police officer or police staff. The VPC is a great way of taking your first step to joining the police, it allows you to gain an insight into the inner workings of the police you see on the street and better understand if it is the right career for you.
