A teenage boy has been charged with attempted murder and firearms offences after a 15-year-old boy was shot near a school in Suffolk.

The victim remains in a critical condition after being airlifted to hospital on Monday morning.

Police were called to Friends Walk in Kesgrave just after 8.40am and witnesses said they saw the suspect get into a car after the attack.

The 15-year-old boy - who is legally too young to be named - was arrested at 10.55am in Ipswich and a "long-barrelled firearm" recovered from a car.

He is being kept in custody and will appear via video link at Norwich Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

As well as attempted murder, he is charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of injury.

Police said they are treating the shooting as an isolated incident but that patrols will continue in the Kesgrave area in the coming days.
