August 18, 2020

A major search has been launched for a teenage boy who got into difficulty in the River Tees.

The boy, 15, entered the water at Broken Scar in Darlington and the alarm was raised shortly after 5pm on Monday, Durham Police said.

Officers were joined by Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, the North East Ambulance Service, Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team and underwater search teams.

"His family have been informed and are being supported and kept up to date by officers," a police spokesman said.

"We know people may want to help with the search, but we would request people avoid the area at this time."
