Man extradited and charged with murder over Christmas Eve shooting in Battersea

June 09, 2020

A man has been extradited from Denmark and charged with the murder of a Swedish national who was shot in front of his family on Christmas Eve.

Flamur Beqiri, 36, was shot multiple times as he returned to his home in Battersea, southwest London, with his wife and young child at around 9pm.

Anis Fouad Hemissi, 22, who is also a Swedish national, was arrested at Copenhagen Airport on 20 January and returned to the UK on Monday.

He has been charged with murder and possession of a firearm and will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, Scotland Yard said.

Police previously said Mr Beqiri may have had criminal links in Sweden and was killed in a targeted attack.

Mr Beqiri, who had Albanian heritage, had been living in London for a few years and reportedly ran a record label at the time he was shot by a lone attacker.

The killer is believed to have fled on foot after the shooting.

A neighbour heard the gunshots and the screams of Mr Beqiri's wife and came out and saw the Swede lying in front of his doorway in a pool of blood.

In a statement released through Scotland Yard shortly after his death, Mr Beqiri's family said: "Our family are in a state of shock and are grieving. To have so much sadness at this time of the year is heartbreaking."

Mr Beqiri was reportedly the brother of former Real Housewives Of Cheshire star Misse Beqiri.

He married his wife, Debora Krasniqi, at Villa d'Este in Cernobbio, by Lake Como in Italy, in October 2018.

According to an article in Grace Ormonde Wedding Style magazine, which published photos of the occasion, the couple met through Facebook.

Ms Krasniqi told the magazine that they "fell deeply in love" when they met in person at his sister's wedding after speaking for "endless hours over the phone".

"There was always something special about our connection and bond," she said.
