There is so much going on in Withernsea that it has now all been compiled into a new booklet!

Residents of Withernsea will shortly be receiving a new booklet from East Riding of Yorkshire Council, which includes a snapshot of activities and events at East Riding Leisure Withernsea; the Withernsea Centre (Library and Customer Service Centre); and events put together locally by Active Coast and Active Withernsea.

The aim is to ensure that local people can find out about a wide range of activities, encouraging them to lead happier, healthier and more active lives.

The publication of the booklet coincides with the relaunch of the Withernsea Little Town Bus, which includes an extended timetable on Wednesdays for those wishing to take part in the Active Wednesdays activities at the town’s Leisure Centre. The bus costs £1 for adults and £0.50 for children under 16.

In the booklet are details of all the facilities available at East Riding Leisure Withernsea, including swimming, the sports hall, the Tone Zone gym, the dance studio, the spin studio, squash courts, and the café, as well as the regular activities programme.

Active Wednesdays at East Riding Leisure Withernsea include a Withernsea Walk (every Wednesday at 9.30 from the Leisure Centre); Body Balance; Aqua Fit; Body Pump; Escape  Pain sessions; Aqua Mobility; Junior Gym; swimming lessons; and sessions for those wanting to get back to sport or play, and those with long term conditions.

There are also details of The Hut, the open access indoor and outdoor staffed play facility for young people. Activities there include sand play, a mud pit, and Go Karts – and all the activities on offer are free!

In addition, residents can read about everything on offer at Withernsea Library and Customer Service Centre, from the games group to Reminiscence sessions; and from the Book Club to the Writers’ Group. There is also Healthy Chats, a new social group with a focus on health and wellbeing. All library activities are free.

Active Withernsea will be offering free summer outdoor exercise classes at The Hut, and the booklet also features Skate Jam and Active Kirkfield, offering even more exciting activities in the town.

Active Coast’s summer programme includes Withernsea-based events : a beach clean on 28 July; a Stone Art Family Workshop on 8 August; Coastal Explorers on 9 August (stone art and a fossil hunt); and Have a Field Day on 12 August.

Councillor Vanessa Walker, portfolio holder for adults, health and wellbeing, said :  “ It’s truly exciting that there is so much going on in Withernsea this summer, and that we have been able to put it all together in a booklet, and to distribute all this information to local people!

“All these activities for all ages represent a real attempt to encourage residents to live healthier and happier lives, and to improve their wellbeing. It’s great that we can do all this, and I really hope that lots of people will get involved!”

The new booklet will be available at several outlets in Withernsea later this week, including libraries and GP surgeries, and leisure facilities, and will also be delivered to 3000 households next week.
