More Bins For East Riding Homes

Posted August 20th, 2008 by Mike Brown in
More than 100,000 homes in East Yorkshire are to get another bin in an attempt to get residents to recycle garden waste. The brown bins, which are for grass cuttings, hedge and shrub trimmings, plants and flowers, should be rolled out in October.
The collected waste will be composted instead of being sent to landfill, just like in the recent trial programme in the Driffield and Haltemprice areas. 1,800 tonnes was collected in the first three months and in June, 31 per cent of waste collected was diverted from landfill.
The brown bins are part of the council’s future kerbside collection consultation with residents which closed on 31 July, the results will be published in the October.
