Mike Brown's Pub Of The Week: The Gardeners Country Inn in Coniston

Howdy!
This weeks Pub Of The Week as revaealed on the show on Sunday is a small independently run pub, function suite and inn, situated a few miles from the holderness coast called The Gardener's Country Inn.
Firstly, let's get one thing straight! It is NOT called The Gardener's Arms which appears to be a bit of a common mistake by people when referring to this place! The Gardener's Arms is that boozer on Cottingham Road, which is often frequented by student types! This establishement is a bit more up market and regularly hosts weddings and other private functions. It has accomodation, a nice little conservatory area and of course the main bar for the locals.
On the day of our visit, I opted for a curry (I seem to do that alot don't i!?) and it arrived with all of the usual accompianments, but to my horror it had green bits in it! Arrrgggh! I can't stand anything green, that kinda stuff is for rabbits if you ask me! Anyway, after much debating on what the green bits actually were, I decided i'd just try it and see what it was like. It was great, and I'd been worrying about nothing and do you know what? To this day I still don't know what the green bits were, we suspected it to be spinach but were not sure! To be honest, it was one of the nicest curries I've had for a long time and it was one of those dishes that wasn't too hot and wasn't to mild, it was just right! Well done Gardeners Country Inn on a top curry!
The Gardeners Country Inn is open Monday to Saturday every lunchtime and evening, for food and Sundays we are open all day.
The bar itself is stocked with all of the usual lagers and bitters that you'd expect and one or two hand pulls to boot. There is also a good selection of fine wine and spirits. There is of course the atndard food menu, a childrens menu and a choise of daily specials from the specials board.
You could say that The Gardeners Country Inn is in the middle of nowhere but when you think about it it's actually close to everywhere Hull is only 6 miles away, Beverley is 7 miles away, Withernsea is 14 miles away and Bridlington is 19 miles away. The pub can be found on Hull Road in Coniston, if your unsure on how to get there you can ring (01964) 562625 or email philwalker1000@yahoo.co.uk, I'm sure they'll point you in the right direction!
Thanks for reading and don't forget to get out there and support your local pubs!
Cheers, Mike Brown.
