Mike Brown's Pub of The Week: Crown & Anchor in Tickton

I introduced a new feature to the show this week called "Pub of the Week", yet another reason to go to the pub!!!
Basically, there are so many great pubs in the East Riding of Yorkshire that don't really get the recognition they deserve. So, I see it as my duty to sample a few of them for you, then if you want to try them you want!
So, for my first Pub of The Week, I ventured to deepest Tickton (or Weel to be precise) to a pub called The Crown and Anchor.
The Crown & Anchor actually sits on a scenic patch of the River Hull and usually has several boats tied up outside. I have been passed the Crown & Anchor several times and there has always been people sat on the benches on the river bank enjoying the sunshine with a drink, which was my main reason for wanting to go.
On the Thursday that I visited, I opted for something to eat and choose the homemade chicken curry from the specials board. It was served with half rice and half chips (just how I like it!) and a naan bread, and I can honestly say it's the nicest Curry I've had for a long time!
If you fancy eating at The Crown & Anchor then meals are served Monday - Saturday 12pm - 2.30pm and 5pm - 9pm then on Sundays 1between 2pm - 2.30pm and 5pm - 8pm. They also have a Teatime Special (two meals from the Main Menu for just £12, excluding steak and Specials Board), a Steak Night and a Curry Night.
The usual suspects of Stella, Fosters, Carlsberg, Pedigree, Marston's Smooth, Banks' Bitter and Jennings Dark were all available on the bar. As well as a selection of Stowells wines.
The Crown & Anchor also organises it's own carboot sales and beer festival and has facilities for private functions, ring them on (01964) 542816 for further details.
Sounds good doesn't it? Wanna go? It's located 2 miles north of Beverley on the A1035 Beverley to Bridlington road, and it is situated on the bank of the River Hull. Leaseholders Shirley Barnard & Andrew Rashbrooke have been at the helm since September 2007 and bring with them over 25 years in the licensee trade.
