Hull Truck Theatre will travel back to the 60s this spring with classic black comedy Loot. This is the first time the company has staged a Joe Orton play - Loot is one of Orton’s most provocative works, challenging established ideas on death, religion and law enforcement.

Director Gareth Tudor Price said: “Hull Truck has never staged a Joe Orton play before and so mounting his most popular comedy - Loot - is very exciting for the company. The play is a farce as well as being a dark comedy. The dialogue is witty and the action builds at a frenetic pace to a mad climax. The play was written in the mid 60s and we will be staging it in that period, with the set and costumes reflecting the era. When first produced it was considered slightly outrageous and it still has the capacity to shock. I think our audiences will be guaranteed an entertaining night out!”

It is the day of Mrs McLeavy’s funeral and with the coffin in the front room, Hal decides to swap his mum’s body with the loot that he and his mate Dennis have stolen from the bank. They lock her body in the cupboard and stash the money in the coffin! Meanwhile, sexy Nurse Fay has conniving designs on Hal’s dad while Dennis has his eye on Nurse Fay!

Loot stars a talented line-up including Coronation Street star Tom Hudson (Hal), who played the Duckworths’ grandson Paul Clayton. Linzi Matthews (Nurse Fay) has also recently appeared in Corrie as the prison officer who led Gail Platt to the cells! New actors to Truck include Gary Lilburn (McLeavy) and Karl Dobby (Dennis) – while there will be a welcome return for Chris Connel (Truscott), known for his previous appearances in Truck classics Cooking With Elvis and A Kick in the Baubles. The production will also feature former Hull Truck Youth Theatre member Josh Meredith (PC Meadows).
