More than 280 public areas in the East Riding could become dog free when new orders come into place this autumn.

East Riding Council want to introduce 'Dog Control Orders' to replace the old bylaws. that control where canines can be exercised. This means that canines will no longer be allowed to be exercised on any school sites, play areas or any of the four beaches in the area, including Withernsea.

When passed, Dog wardens and police community support officers will issue £75 fixed penalty notices to anyone found breaking the new regulations.

The move follows a public consultation on the new legislation which also sets rules for cracking down on dog fouling.
The council's cabinet will discuss the orders before they come into effect on October 1st 2009.
