The Mike Brown Radio Show: A breif history...

The Mike Brown Radio Show came about after Mike was given the Sunday afternoon slot on Seaside FM. Despite the programmes popularity all did not go according to plan whilst preparing to go live!

The first problem was that the station was originally going to be called Seaside Radio when the stations founder set it up, but by the time it made it to air, the boss had changed the name to Seaside FM. This meant that all of the jingles that had been prepared for the show needed to be re-voiced or re-edited.

Also, Mike wanted to do something similar to his breakfast shows he had done on other stations and knew that it would be hard work, so he sought help from a co-presenter/sidekick. Unfortunatly, after much searching, nobody was able to commit and it was decided that as nobody suitable was available Mike would go it alone.

Prior to all of this, Mike presented popular breakfast shows on Jam 1575 and Soul City 106.8 in Hull, as well as regularly gracing the DJ scene at various clubs and bars. It was during this period that he met many performers, artists, comedians and musicians that he would later invite onto his Seaside FM show.

Single handedly, he organised interviews with all of the areas most talented people from singers to magicians, from actors to vicars, Mike has done them all! He has even chatted to chart topping singer Sandi Thom and the legendary 80's icon Frank Sidebottom who he managed to convince to come to the Withernsea studios to talk to him!

Regular features on the show included:

'The Same Old Song'
'The Northern Soul Threesome'
'What I've Mostly Been Learning About This Week'
'The Soul Train'

Being an experimental radio show, new features would pop up all the time, some lasted, some didn't. An example of one that bit the dust rather quickly was 'Radio Err', were Mike edited together all of the ums and erms from interviews and listeners would have to guess how many there were in total, easy eh? We don't know if it was the naff prizes that were on offer or the fact that it was too damn hard, but the competition was axed and never heard of again! Another feature that didn't last was 'Will's One to Watch' when Mike's pretend producer would pick a song he though would be a big hit, from memory I think he chose two!

The show ended in late 2008 and never returned.
